This book will interest anyone wishing to study the aircraft of the WWI era. Written by American researchers in 1917 as a series of articles for an engineering journal, then published as a collection in book form in 1918. This is what American and British designers understood as they developed the famous aircraft of that age. This book also contains a lot of data on low speed aerodynamics that remains relevant today, but it is not heavy on mathematics - relying instead on empirical research in wind tunnels and full scale aircraft tests. The copy is hard to read, but I'm not sure that it's any fault of those who copied it. The original journal must have been a large format, and the collection in book form much reduced. I've never seen an original of this book, or of the journal issues, so I don't know for sure. This copy is clearly much reduced from some larger format, the type is tiny and the multitude of graphs are almost illegible. It takes a magnifying glass to decipher the graph information, but it can be done. Some pages are so light that the information is totally lost. And finally, there were some fold-out pages in the book and these weren't copied at all, with no way to know what was lost there.
But with all that said, I have no regrets about purchasing this book and am glad to own a copy. I have found myself consulting it often in my effort to understand the designs of that day.
